Default MR FX Luke ROTJ suprise

I thought I would just share this with everyone.

Last week I won an auction on ebay for a Luke ROTJ lightsabers. Here’s what the description said:

STAR WARS LUKE RETURN OF THE JEDI SABER

THIS IS THE MASTER REPLICA VERSION WITH THE BLADE REMOVED
STILL HAS THE GREEN LIGHT INSIDE AND MAKES THE SABER NOISE
WHEN POWERED ON, OFF AND WITH MOVEMENT.
IDEAL FOR FANCY DRESS OR JUST AS A DISPLAY PROP
And here’s the pic that was in the auction:

I got it for £31, but I had a £10 off coupon for ebay so I only had to pay £21 + shipping.

When I first saw the auction I thought maybe someone’s just cut the blade off at the emitter and left the remains of the blade in the hilt. That would explain the green light inside. Then I thought maybe someone’s converted it but the seller doesn’t realise what it was.

Well I got it yesterday. Took it out the box and it looked pristine. Here it is:

The first thing I did was turn it on. It worked fine and a bright green light beamed out the emitter. It was converted, so I turned it off and looked down the blade holder and this is what I saw,

a Collimator Lens! So I took it apart to check it out. After taking the control box off, the insides just slide right out. I opened up the electronics holder and this is what I found:

The LED and lens are held in place with some king of sticky foam and nothing else. Notice there’s no heat sink! This wont be kept on for too long. Also notice that instead of using the usual cluster of wires to power the LED it just uses two, just the brown and orange wires are still there.

I was planning to convert it myself and turn it in to V2. It’s halfway done, I’d just need to buy the conversion kit from the store, that is if Tim is planning to get more made. If he doesn’t I could just try to use the maul kit.

My main concern is the wire situation, are the two wires enough to power the LED properly, I know the MR board doesn’t power a luxeon to its full potential, but are the two wires being used give out the boards maximum output? Or will I have to find a new connecter and wires?

Any help with this would be great.

    That's darthvaderUSA's work. It sucks.

I had to fix a conversion he did once. The cutting of the wires is stupid... I soldered the connections on the PCB. I usually do that anyway, but still it's such a waste the way it's wired.

The lack of the heatsink is brilliant. And... not surprising for DVUSA.

I remember reading about darthvaderUSA's work. Well at least I now know where it came from. I'll probably just end up, like you said xwing, soldering the connections on the PCB.

Well I finally got round to converting this properly and turned it into a V2. You can see the pics here:
