Thread: strange k2 lens holder

    Default strange k2 lens holder

ok i just received a new k2 lens holder i ordered from the store(broke the last one) and it looks totally different from the 1st one i have. my question is:
HOW THE HECK DO YOU MOUNT THIS THING??? lol
the lens snaps in really easy... way easier than the last one i got but i cant figure out how it rests on the led.

did i get the wrong thing or did tim switch lens holders he sells for the k2?

EDIT: here's a pic of the lens holder... i dont know if the pic is clear enough to tell the difference but you should be able to see that the bottom (side facing the camera) is closed off with the exception of a small strip whereas my last holder was completely open on the bottom allowing me to actually put it over the led

If you look at the LED, there are two metal leads going to the center of it. Those have to match up with the holes on the holder. You may have to move your wiring over to the next solder point on each side, after that the holder should just rest in the holes on the sides of the star.

that is the ones I'm use to seeing with for the K2.....

there's gotta be something i'm missing here... the last one fit over the led perfectly... here's another pic. the one on the left is my old one. its sorta crushed but it should still be recognizable. the only way this would fit, as far as i can tell, is if the led wasn't mounted to the heatsink or if there were nothing soldered to it... no matter how i change the orientation.

Just take the lens holder and put it straight on top of the LED as they are shown in this picture. I think where you are missing my point, is that you can only put the lens holder on if you solder in the correct places. It can only go on one way if you have the wires on properly.

yeah my wires are soldered correctly... it looks like my issue then is that my holder doesn't have those studs.

It doesnt???? That is really wierd. I guess if your using the sink tube blade holder. Just set it on and put it in the holder making sure that it's tightly together. I'm not sure how the other LED blade holders work.

    Yes..here is the story

I see these K2 lens holders I ordered many moons ago sitting in a box. Why not sell them..look it fits the k2 star just fine. Well I kind of forgot about the no spot for the screw issue.

So, just modify them to work..cut off whatever you need to make it work and it will still work fine. My other ones are just modified ones also.

thanks strydur. its np now that i know what the heck was going on.

i ended up just resting it over the led and it worked... no modification needed. its probably not perfect and may shift or something over time but this is primarily for show so i'm not too worried about it. if it becomes a problem i'll cut it down.
