quick question for the veterans here....
is there enough room to place a switch hole in the smooth part of the ribbed extension just behind the threaded portion?

All things a beginning have.
As all things do an ending.
Be not too hasty from one to the other to move, or much will you miss, along the way.
Should be fine. I've got one of Tim's machined covertech knobs in that area and it only hangs over the groove a little bit.
If you're talking about one of the 3/8 inch switches tim sells, then no.

Thank you both...I had thought as much for the switch

The switch hole can go in the grooved section though.

Thanks Strydur.
Not sure if that solution would fit the design I am trying to accomplish though......sure wish there was a 5" Fem/Fem ribbed section with one end long enough for a good switch hole.........

A 5 inch F/F ribbed extension... Well Tenric, the ribbed extension pieces are 3.7, and Tim sells a 2 inch F/F extension piece, together that is 5.7 inches, and that's not much longer than what you just requested. Maybe you could try that.
