Yup, heard about it.
It would have been MUCH cooler if they had taken a Plecter, a Corbin, an Ultra, a general Luxeon, FX saber, or even a Hyperblade.
I'd like to see them light one up from outerspace... or better yet--have a duel in zero G.

And someone has the luke rotj hilt in there persional collection somewhere.

No, it is a Luke ROTJ saber from the Lucasfilm Archives.
I personally know 3 of the people who were part of the Hand Off Ceremony at Oakland Airport, including this guy in the Luke ROTJ costume who got to handle the saber.
