Thread: Custom Qui-Gon (picture intensive)

    Default Custom Qui-Gon (picture intensive)

I thought I'd give this saber it's own thread.
It will be a very accurate Qui-Gon Jinn replica, with a green K2, Erv's CF 2.5, and rechargeable battery. Here are some shots from the process.

Masking taped a polished aluminum pipe and measured out the dimensions. the cut with a dremmel and mitre saw.

Used a secure jig and a router to carve out the flat part of the grip. The grip section is acetal plastic (delrin).

Again with the jig and router to make the grooves.

Machine the pomel - preped for a speaker, and the cover plate for where Erv's Buttered toast will go.

    Most of the parts machined

    Painting started.

I'm just waiting for a package from France, and my rechargeable batteries to arrive.

That's going to be one of the sweetest Qui-Gon replica sabers EVER!

    WOW!
Wish I had the tools, and space to use them!

IF you feel up to a commission on a custom design let me know.

    Mad, mad stuff, Madcow!!!

Looking forward to seeing that completed. I have to admit--I have never liked any of the replica saber designs (mainly because they don't lend themselves to staged combat much), but I love the beauty of the Qui-Gonn/Liam Neeson saber hilt.

I think it's very very fitting to use Erv's board in there too! Good luck!

    Finished!!!

I did the final assembly today!

It took forever to assemble because everything is so crammed... but it works.
Ill post glam shots later, and explain the hidden effects button.

Thats Erv's Buttered Toast crammed in between the recharge port and the secret effects button.

    - 4.8 volt rechargeable NIMH batteries with 2600 mAh.
    - Green K2
    - Erv's CF version 2.5

Great work, Madcow, that is one in a million!!!

I have a few folks who've been dying to see this saber, so I'm glad to pass on the photos links and so forth.

Also--where do you get those super-mini buttons? I know Erv has them, but you mind PM-ing me about those? They would probably lend themselves excellently to staged combat, and I could REALLY use help on that end... switches are hard to protect and hide from jutting out with most sabers I have...

As I mentioned before... the ones Erv uses and madcow is using on the back are "tactile" switches.

They are momentary only and are called "tactile" because they make a nice "clicky" noise.
