It might work. there designed to drill out the spot welds that hold a vehicles body togeather without damaging the rest of the body so it can be reassembled.

Drill press + Vice + Very, Very Carefully should do the trick

Apparently I can pry off the part with a flathead screwdriver.

    Will try this evening.

(that's the main reason I asked if someone had a non-destructive way to do it before arming myself with my dremel and do some magic)

Hi when I took the guts out of mine I didn't have to mess with that part at all. Not that it was easy mind you, but it didn't seem to catch on that slide switch. Is it possible that these is another part hanging up?

The "rivet" holde the kind of slide switch on one side, and a L-shaped bar on the other. The guts sits on this L-shaped bar and is held by that rivet. Its the main usage of that rivet I guess. Since its only press-fit, maybe yours wasn't holding on there anymore.

    dude simplest way!
take a small punch (or a nail or something)
hammer it in the rivet and it will move the metal just enough for you too then slip it through the loop...does make much sense but works flawlessly, then you can just smash it again after to spread out the material so it locks.
    thats what i did...
