Thread: dismounting graflex

  1. #1

    Default dismounting graflex

I am in the process of removing the vintage guts from a graflex flashgut, and I encounter a problem with one component. It holds the top socket by a rivet on the left side (when holding the flashgun upward, glass eye away)

I'd like to know how others made to remove this.

you can see it on left on that pic:

im no expert but if you drill a tiny hole through the middle of the rivet it should come of easly.

I'm trying to avoid using the dremel - if there's a "simple alternative" that is.

problem with the dremel solution is to pierce exactly where the hole is, as this will be a mounting point for the socket underneat (at least, that's how I understand?? there's like only 2 places for bolts on that tube.)

anyway, if there's no better solutions, I'll dremel it.

Try a drill bit instead of a dremel

that's what I tought. Drill bit in the dremel. Problem with the drill itself is that its heavier and more powerful.

this is another occasion where I'd like to have a drill press.

I have a set of micro drills that are actually made by dremel down to a 64th of an inch and should be readly availible.

A tiny drill through the center won't remove a rivet.

You need to drill a hole in the middle of the head which is the same size as the shaft of the rivet to detach the head. If you can't see the shaft then assume about 1/3 the size of the head.

Work down very gradually - that's the trick.
