Thread: 7.4v DC plug.

  1. #1

    Default 7.4v DC plug.

As I understand it, the standard DC plug for 3.7V 18650 (and similar 1S) is the 5.5mm x 2.1mm. I'm doing a few stunts with a 2S (7.4v nominal), and wanted to add a DC port. But I think that using the same plug for 3.7v and 7.4v is not a wise decision. What is an alternative DC plug? 5.5mm x 2.5mm?

You can use the recharge port for a 7.4V battery.

I know I can. I just don't want to have 3.7V and 7.4V chargers with the same connector. Somebody will eventually plug 7.4V into the 3.7V and bad things might happen. In my country is extremely difficult to procure protected 18650. So I want to use a different connector for the 7.4V.

5.5x2.5 would be the typical alternative. If you are really concerned you can try using a different style. Assuming you are buying batteries with proper protection circuits, the 7.4 charger would trip the protection if the wrong connection was made. Assuming you already have 2.1mm ports in your 3.7 sabers, it is still possible to put the 2.5mm plug into it and it might even make contact with the pin.

If you use a voltage sensing charger it can help prevent issues.
