Thread: You are my only hope; OWK empty hilt to Neopixel

Default You are my only hope; OWK empty hilt to Neopixel

    Good morning,

I am making the Knight of the Sith from The Star Wars, a comic adaptation of the original screenplay for the movie Star Wars.

    I sculpted and cast the mempo by hand, and together with my partner designed our own version of his robes;

(I am sharing my costume progress to show I am serious about bringing this vision to fruition.)

The sabre hilt in the comic is based on the Jedi Clan Sabre used by Ewan McGregor in The Phantom Menance. For the comic, the Knight of the Sith’s has etchings. (I have created art work for this and am tackling the project of acid etching on to the hilt separately.)

For the hilt I have a nice empty. I am not sure of the maker, it can be found with the search terms Star Wars Obi Wan Kenobi K1&2 Graflex Skywalker lightsaber prop hilt.
The hilt is nice, it accepts a 1" blade, but it is tight.
    ?image=aHR0cHM6Ly9pLmViYXlpbWcuY29tL2ltYWdlcy9nL1ZNSUFBT1N3UlNkZFRXczQvcy1sNTAwLmpwZw.jpg

I want to make my own Neo Pixel blade and outfit the empty hilt. I want sound. I need the blade to be set to red when ignited from this hilt.

I do not know exactly where to start.
I think I can piece together what to order to make a Neo Pixel blade, but I would appreciate an experienced member’s check list.
For the hilt, I know the basics of what I need, but I realize there is a great deal of consideration going into that tiny space.
Any help will be appreciated. In return, I will document and share my progress.

    Thank you for your tyme.
I will be checking for your thoughts

Hey @The Clone Emperor ! Welcome to the Forum! And WOW! GREAT START ON YOUR COSTUME! That Mempo is FANTASTIC!

O.K. So, I Googled your search terms and found a few interesting tidbits that may point to the maker of your hilt...

Your photo seems to be from this auction cataloged here...
    http://obiwankenobi.xyz/star_wars_ob...rop_hilt_2.php

That seller is listed as "aynranfan".

    Googling "aynranfan" brought me to...

    https://sabersourcing.com/tag/aynranfan

Which says that "aynranfan" is in fact Jeffrey Parks (aka founder of Parks Sabers).

So, I'd guess that it could be a Parks or Parks/Korbanth Obi-Wan Kenobi The Phantom Menace Episode 1 lightsaber.

You can do some more investigative work on your own over at TheRPF, here's a place to start...

If it does in fact turn out to be a Parks Sabers hilt, you can check out the Korbanth OWK Chassis over at...

    https://goth-3designs.com/instructions/diy-parks-owk

You may need to modify that chassis to work with NeoPixels as it seems to have been created for Tri-Cree.

You'll have to hollow it out with a Dremel Tool to look like this one...

Or you could go with a Trans-White Blade Tube, but it'll trend towards a softer faded red from what I've read.

If you truly have no idea where to start, look at the more basic sound boards and carefully read the manuals.

Thank you for the thoroughly considered response.
I believe it was Jeffrey Parks. I miss seeing his booth at Wizard World.

I realize that sabre electronics itself is an art. Electronics is not one of my strengths, but I feel making the sabre from scratch would be an honourable pursuit. Sure, it might ignite the same as one someone purchased, but it would mean more to me if I could achieve this by my own hand.

There are other sabres I need to make for other costume projects. And I will build from what I learn.

    Thank you
