Default MHS V.2 first lightsaber project, thoughts?

    Hey all,

I am researching building a couple of Shoto MHS V.2 lightsabers for my kids. Both kids like green, so that makes it a bit easier. These will be stunt / duel, robust, simple type lightsabers with No Sound.

I was thinking about the possibility of using (2) 26650 batteries in series for extended run time. I use these type cells in a maglite and they work very well. http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...h-(Green)-2018

I was hoping to use a single body piece, but it seems like 6" is as big as it gets. Two 26650 cells in series measure about 5.2", so I am wondering if this will work. I have seen where the claimed I.D. is 1", I am hoping it is closer to: https://www.onlinemetals.com/merchan...d=71&top_cat=0 where the I.D. is actually 1.125. The Maglite C cell has an I.D. nominally of 1.030", I suppose I could get a brake hone and gently hone the I.D. to size.

My son is 7, daughter 12, I suppose a MHS V.1 would also be ok to use, but I would really prefer the V.2, I really dig this http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/MH...e-4-P1307.aspx and would prefer not to have to use adapters. Keep it simple, elegant, and robust!

Thanks for such a cool place to talk about lightsabers!

MHS specs and tolerances are pretty spot on. I’ve not used v2 yet but if the specs say 1”, it’s 1”. And my personal preference is to always use a chassis

Just a word of caution, the 26650 batteries are 26+/- mm in width, and 1" is 25.4mm, so that may not work. However, the caution part is, rechargeable batteries tend to "breathe" (swell) so you need to compensate for that too.

Good point, I was careful with the Maglite to leave room. I will just use a chasis and 18650, keep it simple.

    Thanks!

Chasm is right about this. In case it's helpful I just re-measured the mhs v2 parts I recently got for my own first attempt at a v2 build and the ID is indeed right at the 1 inch / 2.5mm mark as advertised/expected.

Tim indeed does very precise work based on the pieces I've gotten over the years.
