Thread: My first build.

    Default My first build.

I bought my first saber from a $75 Mystery Box 10 months ago from US at a Con. It went downhill from there LOL. Since I have bought 6 more (3 for the kiddos), won one, and traded one. But after seeing others build their own I knew I had to do the same.

Got most of my parts from TCSS and pommel from US. Along with all the pieces I went with a Tri Cree Red, Red, White LED and a NB 4 soundboard. It looked like it would be one of the easier ones to build with and wasn't to expensive.

So detail from the pommel up. I ordered the pommel plain but it came to me coated in black, instead of going through the trouble of sending it back I just decided to weather it a little.

The next piece is a gear and I ordered it with Black Wrinkle coating so I didn't do anything with that piece.

The next section of the hilt I decided to do an etching using Copper Sulfate. So I came up with a design and using P&P Blue I transferred it to that part of the hilt. Then did the etching, I wanted it kind of deep and this was my first time doing this, I could have went a little longer but I like the way it came out. This section also holds my activation box which includes my AV switch and recharge port.

Next was my grenade section. I took the neck off and painted it antique brass and later weathered it a little with some paint. The grenade I used Aluminum Black on.

The emitter I did a couple things to. I used Aluminum Black inside of the emitter and on the outside I laid out a pattern using pin strip and also Copper Sulfate etched it.

Last was all the electronics, something I had never done before (other then change an LED unit). I will add here I had some problems because I had some cheap solder and bad flux so some of the soldering didn't take. But after a little research (which I should have done first) I got some good solder and flux and had no problem doing my fixes. As stated above it is a NB 4, two red LEDs as my main color and white LED for FOC. I didn't do anything nice with the inside, it is not made to be taken apart and looked at LOL. Maybe one day but I wasn't ready for that. I love the end result and am proud of it, its name is B. M. F.
