Ok, from the led in the hilt, + terminal. Run a very thin piece of copper wire. The wire goes to the end of the blade where a small, 1/8 inch, metal cylinder is. Wrap the wire around the cylinder as much as possible. Then run the wire back down the blade to the negative terminal of the led. Yes, gravity would make the sphere go "up". This is my idea, most likely impossible.

and you will see the wires when blade is lit.

To hold the bearing in place, you COULD try using what would (normally) be blade screws...

One in the emitter that "locks" the bearing down near the optics/blade tube bottom...

One in the poly-c at the top near your tip that locks the bearing next to the tip...

Granted, you would have to stop, get your hex wrench, and/or twist the screw by hand at the tip... while having your saber upside-down if you will.

For SHOW... it'd be fine. And inexpensive. And probably easy to then take out the bearing and just do whatever you like. But I agree that for dueling, you'd still be in trouble. Not to mention, I have no idea about drilling and tapping right through a poly-c tube near its end--you might crack it.

Still... cool ideas. Or just buy Corbin's board... or get Erv's board!!

I like the proper blade + dimming effect, but it definately isn't as defined. This is what luxeon's detractor use mainly, in addition to brightness and evenness in the blade.

I still prefer luxeon blades, having electronics in the blade simply weight too much.

plus, I'm part of the flashlight saber mafia. Mouhahaha.

Actually, Mars was one of the FIRST people to buy my boards back when they first came out. He's been doing Luxeon blades for a long time now. He also invented a special type of emitter that I'd love to try and get a CNCd version of for the shop here.

Corbin is right, I've been trying to better up the luxeon system for a while now, since before my daughter was born. (of course, I had more time on my hands then, and a fancy work area.)

I should make some vids of my lockup sensor some day. I'd like to be able to tweak this with a sound&light combo.

maybe its time to revive that project.

    I'm all for that, Mars!

I had been thinking of an auto lockup detection system for the last 6 months, but I doubt I'll do it unless by me designing a new driver I would offer a lot of value.

I don't want to be a "me too" in the sound/light driver thing. Besides, about 4 designers that I had flaked and/or didn't work out. ANyhow. Grrr...
