Default Arguing with son over maximum voltage for triCree xp e2 LED red

I told my son when testing red LEDs they require a lot less voltage and that the voltage wall going up a little allows for a much higher amperage on the curve

So he told me he said the PSU to one amp and is driving the red LED at over 3 V which I told him not to do

This happens to be the product right here

Is he over driving the red ?

The PSU can be pretty far off if you have long small gauge leads or bad connections. Since you want to drive it at 1amp setting the PSU to 1amp is correct but the voltage the PSU says is required to get to 1amp might be reported higher than what is really needed. As a experiment try it with your test leads and then try it with a short section of wire on the LED hooked directly to the PSU terminals not leads and see if it reports different voltages.

    Thanks for the reply
So do we really want to drive all the LEDs on a triCree at 1A ( I have the power extenders for the L3 pad when using the NBv4 but I also have a crystal focus 8.0 )

What setup are you doing LED wise?

Well we have enough parts to make to complete saber minus a speaker
The boards we have are the crystal focus 8.0 and the nano biscotti 4.0
I have four LED strips that use the WS2812B
And a triCree RGrB from TCSS
The LED try Cree Is The one I put in the link in the first post
I'm trying to make sure my son doesn't burn out the red
Our PSU is a tekpower something
When we got it not that long ago we tested it using a low-end multimeter and we got within 5% of 1 V accuracy

If you do not drive it over 1A you should be fine.

Also, if you're going to use the Crystal Focus card, attach the Red to the main channel, and you'll be fine.
