Thread: Soldering iron question for Pico Crumble

Default Soldering iron question for Pico Crumble

I'm planning out my first Pico Crumble build, I've got my Lux RGB wired and set to go but my worry is this tiny Plector board. I'm not old or young lol, but my hands aren't steady like they used to be, or my eye sight *sigh*. So obviously my concern is the soldering, I know the techniques but my experience with sabers are limited to economy/toy boards with $6-12 irons. Can anyone recommend a good soldering iron, and for that matter the type of solder to make soldering the Pico less stressful?

I alway try to stay on the economical side but for this I want to make sure its done right. This build will go into a Graflex 2.0. My local stores are Radioshack, Home Depot, Lowes, Harbour Freight, etc...

Any suggestions would be great, thank you!

    Weller makes solid soldering irons.

What will be as (or more) important will be a good set of helping hands. They will hold things steady.

Thank you Darth, I do have Radio Shack Helping Hands. I'll look into Weller irons!

This topic has been thoroughly discussed, give a search and you'll find a number of threads on the topic that can give you some ideas. In recent times the $30 Ayoue has become quite popular.

Well I did search and I was hoping someone with direct experience could help. I'll look into Ayoue.

There are a few of the threads below all with responses from people with direct experience. The Ayoue is great and did good by me for 2 years until I toasted the power cord by accident. I ended up going with a Hakko FX-888D as the replacement because of it's additional features over the Ayoue.
