Thread: Tri-Cree RGB LED, Did I buy the wrong one?

Default Tri-Cree RGB LED, Did I buy the wrong one?

Did I buy the wrong LED? I'm trying to make my first Pico Crumble set up and I bought this off another website...but I fear I may have purchased the wrong one..

    Flux Characteristics for Cree XP-E2:
Color CCT Min. CCT Max. Group Min. Flux Order Code
    Red 620nm 630nm P2 67.2 XPEBRD-L1-0000-00701
    Green 520nm 535nm Q5 107 XPEBGR-L1-0000-00D01
    Blue 465nm 485nm K2 23.5 XPEBBL-L1-0000-00Y01

I think I know where you got that, and it'll work just fine.

Alright, having some trouble reading this. It's an RGB but the chart shows

    Unit Min. Typical Max.
    Forward Voltage (@ 350 mA) - blue V 3.2 3.9
    Forward voltage (@ 350 mA) - green V 3.4 3.9
    Forward voltage (@ 350 mA) - red V 2.1 2.5
    Forward voltage (@ 700 mA) - red V 2.3
    Forward Voltage (@ 1000 mA) - green V 3.8
    Forward Voltage (@ 1000 mA) - blue V 3.5

Trying to figure out which numbers to plug into the Ohm formula.

    Default

700mA for red, 1000mA for green and blue. Subtract forward voltage from supply voltage and there's your numbers

Looks like I did indeed buy the wrong LED. I'm using a 3.7v Li-Ion and the 1000ma Green is 3.8v. Right?

A 3.7 volt battery will still power the green LED, just not at 1000 mA.

Alright, since I have no idea. Does that mean I need to put a larger resistor on it?

Wait..No. I've done some reading. I wouldn't need -any- resistor for the 3.9v LED with a 3.7 Battery correct?

Awesome. Ok, so my (hopefully) last question. I'm using this for a PIco Crumble board. If I use this LED and the green has no resistor, will I still be able to achieve a Purple lightsaber, Orange, etc or will it give me problems?
