Default Got bored, starting a saber

As title says, got bored last night and began playing with material I had at hand to create a saber hilt. Ended up going with a Starkiller-ish design.

I learned one fact. I suck at curves with a Dremel tool. Even with a flex shaft. Least it was a $4 sinkpipe so if I can't figure out a means to shape it better I'll just count it as a teaching moment and toss it and recut another pipe.

Very nice...I just finished my own Starkiller hilt & cutting the Graflex shroud was an interesting challenge, I was lucky enough to find a template that helped me. Looking forward to seeing this one done

Curves can be tricky. Cut it on the big side, then trim it down slowly and carefully with shaping tools. Hand files are best for finishing up.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.

Thanks! I actually looked online for a couple hours and only managed to find a standard Graflex template. Served well enough for a start.

Last trip to Home Depot I found some thin PVC Sinkpipe of the same diameter for $1.24 ea so I grabbed a couple to use as practice shrouds. Also grabbed a new set of files to work on this main shroud with. Looking forward to this weekend and having some more time to work on this

My only hang up is the pommel. I'm thinking of ordering a 1.25" copper end cap and drilling holes for sound in the base. The main body fits well inside the 1.25" sinkpipe so I'm not use if any MHS parts would work on it at all. But that's ok,...kinna fun doing the hilt from scratch!
