But susposidly the jedi robes had this too IIRC so it might not of been just sith alchemy.

The sith sabers were made out of a special metal IIRC.
No, the sith sabers were forged with sith alchemy to withstand the energy of a lightsaber.

Vader's shoulder armor & Vader's Fist (right glove) were coated with some sort of magnet, that's how he deflected Solo's bolt in Episode V. The magnet thing was like the waste compacter in Episode IV.

My guess is that vader used the force to absorbe the blaster bolts like yoda did with the lightning.

But Iam sure it wasent just alchemy. there might of been some other factor at play but Iam pritty sure it was a material that was resilent. But like I said I never read the books just the origional 3.

Cortorsis blades short out lightsabers. A Jedi survivor of the purge used it against vader, screwed his saber, just for him to snatch the sword out of her hand and stab her, then killed 12 more surviving jedi...

To answer the tsuba question... Mostly used to keep the hand from sliding onto the blade. Also for ornamentation, to show rank, or status.

    The switches... first the hardware...

and then the MR. Hope to get this part looking a little better eventually. Right now it's just electrical tape under the gap in the wrapping. It's kind of hard to make it look right when you have to leave the gap for the switch to slide. BTW it's just the stock slide switch from the vader.

In the Dark Lord novel, I believe he did indeed use the Force to deflect blaster bolts. Which makes Vader a hundred times more bad-arsed than having some fancy glove.

Obviously you haven't seen the "Glove of Darth Vader" series. :P

I believe the antogonist discovered that Vader's voodoo wasn't in the glove (he thought Vader's Force choke was from some mystic property of the glove) and so tried to fake it with technology.

I haven't read the book, but I've probably browsed Wookieepedia too much.

    you're dead on LA
in the book the glove of darth vader, some dude thinks that that is how vader was able to force choke. the antagonist is actually the son of the emperor but he doesn't have the force so he sets out to find it
