Thread: Simple design using modular wiring system

Default Simple design using modular wiring system

Hey guys, new here and I'm designing a custom hilt starting with the electronics. The idea for the electronics is to go as simple as possible in terms of capabilities as well as assembly, while still maintaining quality. I won't need multiple colors or anything like that. All i need for functionality is the basics: Lights/sounds/clash/on-off switch. I am building a custom hilt around these electornics so I jsut want to make sure these items will work together and that i'm not missing any pieces.

    Here's my list: http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Vi...3-d5f1904f67c5

    And in writing:

Rebel Star LED & MHSV1 Heatsink Module

MWS Pre-Wired Nano Biscotte Sound Module V3

MHS speaker and 4x AAA battery holder

MWS Short Momentary 16mm AV Switch - Nickel

Let me know if i'm missing anything. Also, If i were to switch the battery pack for one of the rechargeable batteries, I would love a recommendation for this setup. There's 9 different options and I'm a bit lost as to what the differences are. Thanks in advance guys!

If you'd like to switch that holder for a rechargeable cell, the Nano Biscotte 's power requirements will narrow your choices to the three 3.7v Li-Ion cells, either the 18500, or one of the two 18650's.

Thanks for the quick reply! And correct me if i'm wrong, but it doesn't look like there are any modular speaker set-ups for the rechargeable batteries. So if I went down that route I would still need to wire/solder/mount a speaker, but everything else would basically be plug-and-play, correct?

I HIGHLY recommend going with the 18650 battery, you'll get MUCH better life out of your saber.

This speaker mount is specfically designed for the NB & 18650...you'll need the 18650 holder that they link you to in the description.

These 2 videos walk you thru building a basic saber with sound & Rob (Madcow) walks you thru making that battery holder modular.

These should get you thru your build, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Also: 4 alkaline batteries (6 volts) are a definite risk for cooking the Nano, which has a max safe input of 5.5v.

With my original saber build, I used this holder http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/MH...lder-P766.aspx
    with a 14500 battery http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Tr...Pack-P342.aspx
and this http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/AA...Cell-P522.aspx (to protect from over-voltage)
This solution had a couple drawbacks. First, this battery has a fairly small runtime. The fact you get two for the price helps a little bit,
but unscrewing the pommel to switch batteries can get just a bit tedious.
The other issue happens sometimes with hard clashes... the battery would move in the holder just enough to lose physical contact with
the spring... so the saber would just lose all power for a moment, and reboot after the battery settled back into place.
