    Default Alternative to Dremel

Has anyone tried using a Foredom rotary tool instead of a Dremel?

My Dremels keep wearing out, and I'm thinking I'd like to have something more durable. Thoughts?

What part seems to wear out? There are motor brushes that are said to need replacing after 60 or so work hours. If it has a speed control/on switch that assembly may have died out. I recently replaced said assembly in my Dremel 300 series along with the motor brushes and its working almost like new.

Foredoms are great but they aren't cheap. I like using them. The motors are bigger and can handle a heavier load and the foot pedal for controlling speed is nice, the flex-shaft is lighter and more maneuverable than holding the whole motor in your hand. Dremel does make a flex-shaft accessory (25$-40$) I have one for my craftsman rotary tool. I oil it up once a day if I'm going to be using it a lot (3-in-1 not WD-40)

If your dremel is wearing out prematurely you need to examine how you are using it. Is it covered under warranty?
