Thread: ? About hilt tubes.

    Default ? About hilt tubes.

Just out of curiosity... have the dimensions changed at all over the last couple years?

I bought the components for my first (sadly, due to budget constraints, still my only) saber in summer '14, and after recently watching Madcow's video: "basic saber with sound, style two" I felt an upgrade was in order.

I bought the chassis discs for the sound card, recharge port, some new, smaller wire, a couple blue dot switches (a second is cheap insurance in case one gets messed up) a 4-40 all thread rod & a couple nuts.

Now I'm just waiting on speaker holder 4, aluminum spacers, & chassis disc 5 to be back in stock. Anyways, back to the (style 2) hilt: when I went to do a test fit of the chassis discs they simply refused to go in.

On a side note, I'm also debating a small design change with box 21. I'm fairly sure it would look better than the bezel I originally used.

The only change I'm aware of is when Tim changed the pommels to have the same ID as other standard MHS parts. Everything else is still the same internally.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.

Two possibilities as well come to mind, if I may.
    1) If you are trying to fit MHSv1 chassis discs into an MHSv2 hilt, they certainly won't fit.
    2) Depending on the MHSv1 piece you wish to house the discs, they may not fit. For instance, the ribbed, ribbed/grooved, and grooved body pieces have a 1.15" ID instead of the standard MHS v1 ID of (if I recall correctly) 1.245".

So maybe let us know which pieces are in the build that won't accept the chassis discs. Like SS says above, the system standards haven't changed, so there must be some other confounding factor in your case.

    Good luck!
So certain are you; always with you it cannot be done.
Hear you nothing that I say?

Sorry for the issues you are having. In trying to keep things in stock we used a local machine shop to help out and the last batch of tubes where a bit undersized on the inside. We will not be using outside sources again as we strive to offer as perfect a product as we can to our customers. Contact us via E-mail and we will work with you to find a solution.

Sorry for late reply, been super busy with home life this last week.

To re-iterate... The main body is MHS v1 style 2: http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Hi...le-2-P869.aspx
    purchased Aug. 2014.

The chassis discs are as follows:
    S8 blue (recharge port)
    S3 blue (NB + 18500 or 18650)
(purchased maybe 6 weeks ago... towards the end of Oct.)

    ----

I was wanting to re-create the chassis featured in this Madcow video from Aug. 2015:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrA-FiAvR5U

At about 28:44 he says something about a slight change in the hilt tubes, if you
had purchased one more than a couple months before the video was published the
discs would be a tighter, more difficult fit, maybe even needing a bit of sanding,
but with newer hilt tubes the discs should slide right in...

(so to me sounds as though he's saying the ID is slightly increased to accomodate the discs)

    Do you hear that?
That is the sound of a thousand terrible things headed this way.

Correct.. Before the middle of 2015 probably we did not bore out the inside of the tubes as they are supposed to be 1.25" or close enough. We started getting complaints about disc's not fitting because of tubing with a overly small ID so we decided to start boring them out to solve that issue.

    Thanks for the confirmation.
Looks like a new hilt is on the table for me in the not too distant future.
