Keeping Threads Clean?

I've noticed a blackish to dark gray residue on my male and female threads, most noticeably on my pommel threads and the corresponding female end. My saber does have a removable battery (V6 Speaker Mount) so these threads do get the most use. I used a toothbrush to clean up the threads and applied a bit of the Super Lube from the store before I noticed the gray stuff.

How often should I clean my threads? What should I use to clean my threads? Is there a way to avoid the gray build up?

It's just aluminum wear mixing with the lubricant from the store. Perfectly normal. You can safely ignore it unless you get dirt in the threads. If you feel any grinding or scraping while threading your parts together, that's a good sign that it's time to clean the threads. Until then, happy sabering.
