    Default Rahn/Katarn hilt electronics

    Hey guys,
First time saber builder and I'm already in over my head, I hope I'm right section.
with help from a friend I made this hilt from these blueprints KyleKatarnBlueprint.jpg and it turned better than expected I now want to install electronics and a blade into it. I was watching this video which brought me here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOpUSCsXXhk but I am not sure about the size of the electronics and other parts such as the luxeon rebel star or the lens and holder and if they will fit into my hilt?. Is this possible to find out or can someone give me suggestions on which parts I can use?
the blade holder end has an inner diameter of 29 mm and the pommel end has an inner diameter of 25 mm

    Thx
    Colin

As a professional designer you should have had a look at the internal component size before machining the parts. Most dimensions are listed with the parts in the store. You might be able to fit with modification one of the tcss led holders and heat sinks. The blades are 1", I have 3 so far and they are between 27mm and 26mm diameter. So your blade will have a slightly loose fit, so be sure to use a good blade retention screw. Speakers are 28mm but there are 20mm available. The LED stars are 20mm diameter, and will require you to mount them to a heatsink of some form. Look in the store in the blade holder and non mhs sections for ideas on how to hold/mount the LEDs.

    Great looking hilt!

29mm is a bit large for the blade/LED parts sold here, but if you are machining things anyway, you should be able to make yourself a sleeve to get the internal diameter down to 26mm, which should fit a nominally 1-inch OD blade very nicely.

As for electronics, the dimensions for the various bits are all available in the shop. Good luck! Great start!

    Thanks Mineral,
Great advice! I think that's what I will do. I didn't plan to have any electronics in it but it turned out better than I thought it would.

Looking for ideas on what to use for the control box.
    Any ideas out there?

    Well, there's this http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/MH...Boxes-C57.aspx
Alternatively, you could may be make one.

I have been trying to make it myself but I'm having trouble getting it to sit flush on the hilt.
I thought there might be some alternative or something I can use to model the control box on

Bar stock and a sanding drum the same diameter of your hilt section it will fit on. Might have to turn a piece of scrap aluminum or hard wood to diameter, then spray mount sand paper or Emory cloth. Start coarse and work fine.

Once you get it close, wrap some sandpaper around your hilt and rub the control box over it until it matches up and sits properly.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.
