Thread: When are we going to get an accurate thin neck emitter for Obi-Wan/Luke builds?

Default When are we going to get an accurate thin neck emitter for Obi-Wan/Luke builds?

As of now, we have a thin necked emitter which dosen't resemble the ones used by Luke and Obi-Wan, and an emitter that resembles them but is too fat. It would definitely complete the store if we had access to that emitter because its the only thing thats missing.

Only a guess, but I suspect that will be sometime around when the store changes its name to TheREPLICASaberShop instead of TheCUSTOMsabershop and/or around when Strydur doesnt mind getting sued out of business by the legal stormtroopers of the Evil Empire er Mouse Corporation in order to "resemble the ones used by (Copyrighted characters)" that are the intellectual property along with their unique movie prop designs of aforementioned Evil Mouse Co....

...meanwhile some of us saberfans [notice the word saber not another word that is also a trademark of a big corporation] are very grateful that someone in the saber hobby made a store where we can buy parts for custom sabers even if they arent "accurate" replicas of something else that someone else might see in some sort of movie somewhere, and might personally wish that people would stop asking for parts by the names of copyrighted characters that might cause problems for that hmmmmmm...

While I agree about the concern in some ways over licensing issues, if Tim can safely sell visual replicas of Graflex flashguns, along with the parts needed to make it into a replica saber, I imagine that simply making a skinnier neck on a handful of emitters would be pretty low risk... Especially considering the Luke and Obi sabers were made out of found parts like the Graflex. I would be more worried about parts made to resemble designs actually created by LF, like pommel #4 (the Obi TPM/AOTC pommel).

It can be made...like TrypWyr stated.. Luke's firsts lightsaber(his fathers Jedi Saber, Obi(Ben) picked up) is being replicated all over the place. But there is one problem with the thin neck(Luke's Second)Lightsaber...you can't duel with it...because the blade would only be held by about an 1" to 1-1/4" of blade holder(would need a 2" shaft that was on the inside of the Blade Holder, that the 1" Blade would slide over for extra strength)....would have to be custom Blade for it so the inner part would have 2" at the end that didn't have any poly film on it for the 1" blade.

It's not that it can't be done and there are several smiths out there one in particular that makes very accurate replicas but you can even slide custom saber shops internals into.

What we have here is an example of three different types of intellectual property protection. First the original Graflex flashgun would've been protected by utility and probably design patent. Do utility patent perfected the way it was manufactured in and/or the way it was functioning. The design patent if it had one protected the aesthetics of the product however for when you get around with design patent they only need to change the look of an item enough for a judge or court to see as an 80% modification. Patent have a maximum lifespan in most cases of 25 years after that it's pretty much free game. Since movies are considered artwork the same as a song or painting or sculpture so are the elements of that movie such as the costumes and the movie props. Since these are considered works of art they're copyrighted forever.

There would need to be a custom blade yeah or you could just have the emitter walls at the end extend a bit like how Vaders Vault handled the Hero saber, which according to them allows you to duel with it.

That dosen't really make sense. If saber smiths can get away with a hilt thats 95% movie accurate, whats stopping the TCSS from making a generic thin neck saber? The fact that its called the CUSTOM saber shop? Can you explain to me why he's able to get away with making a Maul emitter but not an Obi-Wan emitter?

Difference between potential for income. Though there is little likely hood the mouse would file, it would be more financially viable to go after a company than an individual, at least to set the legal president. Essentially like the music industry did in the late 90s with napster and the like...rather than the individual listeners who were also pirating by downloading the songs.

But more importantly the store aimed at allowing you to build custom sabers not replica sabers...think I read that somewhere.
