Thread: why is a format necessary?

Default why is a format necessary?

Why is it necessary to format the SD card before I switch-out sound files? Anybody know? It seems to me when a "swing" event is triggered, the board should play "swing1.wav". What's the complication that necessitates a full wipe and replacement of the entire file structure? I don't get it.

It probably due to the way that solid-state memory works. Files are not over written, just hidden, even with the same name. So some systems require a fresh format anytime you change system configuration files.

I asked that same question here. Basically to save money, space, etc. the Plecter Labs boards don't completely support random access of files on the SD card.
