Thread: No sound at all

    Default No sound at all

I just finished my first ever build with a Prizm 4, tri Cree RBG, a 18650 battery, and the premium speaker.

I unplugged the kill key... And... Nothing. No sound at all.

Lights and such work as expected, just no sound.

Does it matter which speaker wire is connected to which pad?

I am not entirely sure how to troubleshoot it,

Polarity doesn't matter for the speaker. Check your solder joints both ends or if you're using jst, check they're pushed tight together. Sorry if this is stating the obvious but always try the simple things first. Make sure your cram-fu is not squashing the speaker. After that it may be blown.

It must be a bad speaker.

I have removed and re-soldered connections on both sides and tested with it in-hilt and out... Absolutely nothing. <sigh>

Is it a 28mm premium? Cos mine popped on the first gentle duel. I replaced it with the bass speaker, which, IMO, is better.

If you have a second speaker, try soldering it in place of the first. The idea in troubleshooting is to remove one variable at a time as the cause of the fault. Check the connections for shorts, especially on the board. Too much solder, or too much solder lead (exposed wire coming off the solder joint) are common causes of overlooked shorts. If you have a voltmeter, test the speaker pads on the board while the saber is turned on. If you have voltage readings at the pads, chances are that it's not the board that's the problem. Use stock sound files from www.plecterlabs.com to see if there is a problem with your config file or sound file formats. Make sure when you copy sound files, you format the SD card FIRST and then <CTRL+C>, <CTRL+V> the files (not drag and drop). All common issues with sound.

    Good luck!
So certain are you; always with you it cannot be done.

    The speaker is bad.

I picked up a 29mm from the local RS and it works perfectly. It doesn't fit and can't be a replacement, but at least I know the TCSS speaker is fried... Which is a bit lame as this was the first time I've ever used it.

I now have some replacement speakers in order from TCSS. Hopefully they ship out rather quickly.
