    You can use trial and error, or you use a temporary potentiometer (pot) in place of the resistor. Wire up the pot, adjust it until you get the desired color, measure the resistance of the pot, and then swap it out for a permanent resistor with the measured value.

    Silver, what pot rating are you using? I have a few salvaged pots (most likely 25k or 50k) I have been playing with. They work fine for accents, but with the rebel star I have for testing they are basically all or nothing. Just seeing if you had a preference before I head over the the electronics shop to pick up a couple of known spec ones.
