Thread: First time builder having issues with MWS :(

Default First time builder having issues with MWS :(

"So easy an idiot can do it" was the impression I got from the reviews, so knowing NOTHING about electronics, I got pre-wired peices from Tim.

I have a MWS "red ring" momentary AV, MWS momentary to latching converter 2.2-16v, buckpuck 700mA, and a deep red luxeon rebel star.

It's all MWS, so the jst connectors seem like common sense, male to female. Online descriptions said battery hooks up to the converter, which connects to both the switch and the buckpuck, puck to LED. Got it. I turn it on... and just my switch lights up. No main LED.

I've thrown on a latching switch with just the buckpuck to confirm that the LED works, it does.

I wasn't sure if I had enough power, so I swapped my 4AAA for a 9v. Still, only the switch lights up. (Total noob here, I don't even know if that was a viable thing to try.)

Ive tried the forums for a solution, but I just don't have enough experience to figure this out on my own. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Images of the wiring would be helpful. The 9v has the voltage, but will not output the current needed to fire the LEDs.

Did you double check this? (for this product's page)
    Wiring
Red/black Female JST Labeled VIN = Battery pack input
Yellow Female JST = Momentary switch input
Red/black Female JST labeled VOUT= Can be used for a MWS AV switch LED so the LED is on when the switch is on or any other circuit you want switched on with source voltage.
Red/black Male JST labeled VOUT = Battery output to buckpuck, resistor, etc.

Ok, here is a pic of the wiring. I'm using 4AAA and the little light on the converter is ON, but no LED ignition. And I double checked the wiring for this picture.

The two yellow wires on the MWS Buckpuck (switch wires) should be hardwired together. You're using the converter as a switch already.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.

So... cut off the jst connector and solder them to each other?

That or create a jumper to connect the two wires together. A jumper is more easily reversible, but both methods are fine.

Any chance you could post a photo of the completed wiring?
