Default Step 2 - I have decided to make a EL saber - BEING PHASED OUT

IMPORTANT: EL SABER TECHNOLOGY IS BEING PHASED OUT OF THE STORE. YOU MAY NOT SEE ALL THE PARTS THAT ONCE WERE THERE

    EL (Electro luminescence) sabers

    As we said in
Step 1, a saber is made up of two parts: a blade and a hilt. We'll look at each one of these now.

    BLADE CONSTRUCTION

EL is a wire that glows when a current is applied.

The color is determined by the color of wire inside the blade. You have probably encountered it before as perhaps the back light of a watch.
EL Saber Blades use up to 17 feet of wire inside a 3/4" polycarbonate tube. The wire itself is disguised by a diffuser of HD polyethylene tubing. This opaque tubing conceals the wire yet allows light to filter through. EL's advantages are it's even color and ease of color changing. All it takes is switching a blade to change the color. Some colors however are fairly dull compared to others. EL's brightness is affected by the voltage and the inverters sold here can be safely run at 9-18V. EL blades are 3/4" in diameter.

Various EL blades shown below. For complete descriptions and pricing, click on the color blade you want.

inverters to make the wire glow.

You can build an entirely custom EL saber by using the
MHS Builder. This computerized system allows you to mix and match different grip, emitters, pommels and extensions and VISUALLY SEE what they would look like BEFORE you buy.
