"Yeah, yeah, I've heard it all before... you want blindingly bright, super loud, running 1138 blinkies off of the cheapest sound card you can find AND you want all of it to run on a battery the size of a dime, and run for a very, VERY long time. That one cracks me up every time..."

Good comparison. What battery/resistor combo did you use on each?
Is the difference in the blades a good representation of the naked eye, or is it more due to the camera?
Due to the brightness of the LEDs the camera tends to wash out. To the naked eye all three are distinctly different colors.
The saber on the left is a short 1" thick-walled blade (no diffuser film).
The saber in the middle is 7/8th thick-walled blade (w/ diffuser film).
The saber on the right is a 1" thick-walled blade (no diffuser film).
Probably that's all that he had available at the time. There's no significant difference between the two, other than wattage and physical size.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.
