    This is the best I could do. The line was too long to talk to the dude, so I took a pic. I don't know how helpful it is though...

    strange that they are round on the outside and not hex shaped. They're pretty unusual looking.
    If the writing on the bag is correct the inside of the fat part should be threaded, is it? If not, it's probably mislabeled.
    According to the writing on the bag it is an adapter to convert 1/2" copper sweat (soldered copper pipe) to 1/2" IPS (threaded iron pipe). I've always seen these with hex shape so you can use a wrench to thread it on to the IPS pipe like this one:

    This is what i was thinking, that part had to of been mislabeled or its parts from an old batch or something

    There was another bag of 3/4" labeled the same way. I read that IPS could stand for internal pipe swivel.

    There are no threads whatsoever inside or out. There is a slight inner chamfer on both ends.

    Yeah, I think your brass dowel might be different than mine. Looking at your pics it seems that there are small holes in the prongs, am I correct?
