Default Creating a Qui Gon red button

I'm trying to recreate a Qui Gon red button using a standard 12mm LED AV and a red thumb screw

    Using these

The question I have is. How far into the top of the AV switch can I drill before making it inoperable?

A few people on the facebook page I read, say it can be done but failed to elaborate. sucks when a persons job gets in the way of your project needs.

Skip the drill and use epoxy?
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.

I thought about that, the problem is that the screw head will probably cover the led. I was going for a back lit look.

I would estimate that you'll want a minimum of 1/8" depth to allow the thumbscrew to be secured. More if possible. You can always trim the thumbscrew's threading down to an appropriate amount.

I kind of figures there would have to be some trimming involved. I don't want to toast an AV switch if I go to far into the top.

Could you try silver serpent's epoxy method with a 16mm AV? It might not cover the led if the switch is bigger

I'll have to add one to my shopping cart, see what works best.

I'd have to agree with the epoxy method here. as long as you treat the surfaces right and let it cure, it should adhere amazingly without you having to drill into any switches!

Maybe drill an 1/8" hole and use epoxy, best of both worlds
