Recharge port hole size

When I started this saber, I didn't think of purchasing the service item of drilling a hole for the recharge port, which means I will have to do it at my local hardware store. That being said, I plan on drilling a simple hole for the recharge port to fit in from the inside and for me to simply secure it by screwing the nut from the outside. What is the ideal size for this hole and is there anything I should keep in mind before I do this?
