Default Quick change kit / Anakin blade holder compatibility

    Hey guys.

I’ve been lurking these boards for a few months now and this is my first post.

Just got the Anakin FX conversion kit. Works great and looks awesome. Next week, I might post some crappy quality pics of it in the gallery.

Anyway to the point – Will the heatsink that comes with the quick change kit fit on the bottom of the Anakin blade holder? Is it the same diameter as the holder and will the screw holes match up perfectly? The small picture in the store looks like the only holes in it are for mounting the LED and for the wire leads to go through.

Also there is this quote from the item description:
Must be used with the MHS led blade holder

I think I just answered my own question though.

You'd need to talk to Tim if you wanted another heatsink for it. It'd might have to be lathed to the correct diameter. For sure the holes would need to be made for the socket head screws (you were correct, it only has the LED mounts and wire holes).

Besides that I don't think you get how much of a pain it'd be to change... it'd be anything but quick. You'd need to remove the copper buttons and shrouds around them each time (a recipe for really messing them up over time). Then you'd have to remove each four of the screws to take off the heatsink.

It's possible though. You'd definatly need the foresight to lengthen the wires for pulling out, but be aware it's not "quick" by any sense.

I hear ya on that. I thought that when I was getting my conversion for my vader fx saber, well after taking it apart and getting it back together, They are by no means "quick". If you want diff colors your gonna have to get multiple anakin fx sabers.

Or put in a white LED and use colored filters.

    Default quick change

the conversion kit heatsink and quick change mhs heatsink are the exact same part with the exception of the quick change not having the holes to screw it to the blade holder, and its what i use in most cases, but your not saving any money when you look at the cost of the heatsink in the conversion and the cost of the mhs heatsink

OK, I guess it’s just a matter of contacting Tim then.

I’m pretty set on doing this. I should have mentioned that when I installed the upgrade, I did plan ahead and also installed a quick-change connector and left the wiring plenty long to work with.

I know that changing the LED with my setup is not going to be ‘quick’ by any means and that I will have to disassemble the hilt to do it. As far as damaging the copper buttons and whatnot, heh, I did that months ago when I first took it apart to replace the battle-damaged LED strip. (The transplant was completely successful btw, until a few bulbs went bad again 3 weeks later. You all know what causes that to happen. )

White LED with filters? Eh… well… that’s just too easy. Besides I don’t want the light to be dimmed at all.

Cost? I’ll pay the $10 custom work fee or whatever Tim wants to get him to drill out the four holes. It should still be cheaper than paying the $45 for the complete Anakin conversion kit. And way more practical.

    Thanks guys.

The heatsink used in conversion kits is the bolt on one. It is larger than the MHS one. I will add it to the store for people to order seperately as soon as I get a chance.

    UPDATE:

My order with the two heatsinks came yesterday. My Anakin conversion is now sporting an orange blade.
(The other color I went with is green.) I can change out the LED in about 15 minutes.

Thanks to Tim for putting those heatsinks up for sale.
