Thread: RGBA Cree Quad Pad LED

Default RGBA Cree Quad Pad LED

I want to go all out on my current build with color mixing as well as good yellows/ oranges, and I have found a place where I can get an RGBA Led module that uses Cree XPE and XPE2 Leds that will run at 1000mah each. I was about to give up on my quest when I finally found it, cuz they don't really make these. It's a custom build they are doing for me.

The thing is, it comes on a quad pad, which is slightly bigger that the star pad. The quad is 24mm and the star is 20 mm in diameter.

Will the Quad pad fit okay on one of TCSS heat sinks? I need to make sure before I buy the module.

    Thanks in advance.

I would guess no, as the heat sink module has a 1" (25mm) OD and the heat sink itself screws inside the module

The star pads fit on the heatsink part pretty much perfectly... I would say probably not an extra 4mm...

I don't see Quad Crees all too often, but a 23mm quad rebel apparently *juuust* fits into an MHS heatsink - you do need to grind down a bit of the opening on the optic end, though, so as to not obstruct the LED light.

Alternatively, you could maybe drill a few holes into an old style heatsink and screw the 24mm circle into place.

    Hi!

With Quad LED mount, how can we focus the light?

I mean, a single LED has a crystal to be set (5 or 8?). A Tri-Led has a funny reflective plastic part with three holes to place on top of it before to close the LED module... But a Quad LED... Is there a specific part to find? Should we make one?

    Bets regards,

Quad Cree's fit a Carclo 4-Up optic. Very common setup for high lumen "Torch" style flashlights.

Also if using the same source I have used for prototyping purposes, they may require a 2-4 piece minimum order it varies depending on their current demand.

I have never really delved into the specific mixing of amber's and yellows, based on neither being a recommended color in my field of expertise, but would the RGBW crees not suffice for amber and yellow hues. They are the same ones used in large format color LED displays such as motion billboards you may see on the highway or sides of buildings. A friend of mine paired one with a UV on a custom 2-up disk to develope a blood trailing flashlight that required a very specific wavelength output.

    Hi!

Thanks for the Carclo reference. It looks good, but the Cree-4 is 24mm and seems not to fit in TCSS blade holders...

Does anyone ever tried the Luxeon latest Quad Rebel (23mm)?

It has a clever center-bottom connection capability and the 23mm that fit juuuuuuust into the HMS heatsink as reported by Kouri

I'm still trying to get a working saber with this kind of led for full-colour (Royal Blue, Red, Green, White or Amber) achievement.

    Best regards!

You might want to look into a Cree XML. These are what I am looking at for my build.

    Hi!

    I found that Luxeon actually provides focus lens (10°, 20° and 30°) : http://www.luxeonstar.com/khatod-10-...3mm-quad-optic

Neebie question: what is the best focus angle for a saber?

Aside of this, does anyone have the exact dimensions of the MHS HeatSink module? I want to be sure that all the stuff is fitting together

    Best regards
