Default A Noobs First attempt... Help!

    First of all... Greetings all!

I am completely new to the saber building scene and so... I am a bit wet behind the ears to say....

I am machining my first hilt now and I am getting the hang of that... but the internals are what
are freaking me out right now....

I have the following items that were donated to me or purchased:

    1. Tri-Rebel LED (RGB)
    2. Obsidian 3 Sound Card
    3. 4 AAA holder with speaker mount
    4. Speaker
    5. Short AV style momentary button (yellow)
    6. Dynaohm resistors

What I need help with is the rest.... I am not sure what else I need or really how to get started on wiring things up.
What I would like to achieve is this: Use the Red/Green dice to create a YELLOW blade... and then add the Blue for FOC
to get Bright White.... At least that is what I think combining all three will give. I tried to find a color mixing chart for the
    TRI-Rebel without much success.

I saw though that someone was using the RGB with a 1ohm 2W resistor on the RED, and a 3ohm 1W on the green to get an orange color
blade.... I just wonder what I would need to get a good color Yellow.

I am also unsure what would be the best battery setup for this. I am NOT intending this to be a stunt/dueling saber.... Just ones for pics
    and stuff.....

Help a newb out.... point me in the right direction... If you have pics and diagrams all the better!

    Thanks in advance!

First off, welcome to the party!

You will need to decide on a battery setup before sorting out the specifics of your LEDs, I'm not familiar with what the Obsidian boards require, one of the other members may be able to help with that.

Light mixing is additive as shown in the picture, so you are correct that red+green is yellow. In the example you listed the 3 ohm resistor was used to greatly dim the green led so push the color into orange (more red light than green light).

http://ledcalc.com/ can you give you the minimum resistors needed for your LEDs, you will need to look up the specs for your tri-rebel. Then its a matter of what shade of yellow you want to achieve. Increasing the ohms on the green resistor will tint it towards amber/orange, increasing on the red will start to tint it towards a sickly yellow/lime green.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Additive_color is what you use. Red and green will make yellow. Red green and blue together will make white. If you want a specific shade, you use potentiometers (variable resistor) on each of the LED dice, and adjust them individually until you find the shade you want, then measure the resistance across the potentiometer. Replace the potentiometer with a standard resistor with that value, and the color will be locked in.

As for wiring up and powering the Obsidian board, you'll need to go read up on that at the manufacturer's site. We don't discuss their products here.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.

thanks for the info guys..... I am already working on my hilts.
Will come back and ask more questions when I get the particulars
on my sound board figured out!

    Thanks
