Box 17 with switch... 22? Possible?

I am very tight for space, and one area I'd like to sort out is the switch box. As it stands, there is too much going on in the hilt for switch 20/21.

I love the look of switch 22. Does it sound basically sane to drill out the M5 hole slightly, mill out a recess behind the box and take something off the hilt to boot.

If it can fit, I could then run wires either internally, or even sandwich them between the box and the hilt to a penetration.

Any suggestions/advice appreciated

I am considering something like this as well. In my checking it seems like a possible solution.
