Cool, I see, and nice use of woodburning to conceal the seams. I'm using a 1" forstner bit to bore out the internals, although since I'm lacking a drill press, it's a pretty nerve-racking procedure. And going back to finishes, I think I will end up using an oil like you said, so the cherry will naturally age and darken. Thanks for an inspiring build!

I used quite a number of different forstner bits. Just remember you are drilling end grain so it will be much harder then usual. I scratched my cherry hilt badly when the hilt slipped under drilling, just remember you can never have too many clamps. Good choice with the oil, I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Yeah, I can imagine how helpful a selection of forstner bits would be in a build like this. And yes, drilling end grain is much harder indeed! Yikes, sounds frustrating with the slipping/scratching. I've been clamping like a madman, so hopefully the last piece will go as smoothly as the others. When I have some decent progress, I'll post some of my work.

I was lucky enough to hold and inspect this saber and it truely is a work of art. Very nice hand and a half size to it and craftmanship is second to none. Has potential to be a worthy opponet one day. They blue powerup button that shows through really sets the whole thing off. Lucky to hold such a weapon.
