Thread: Two powder coating codes on one part?

Default Two powder coating codes on one part?

So my basket is loaded, and I am ready to order all the parts to build my first saber once the pommel I like comes in. However, before I click checkout I was wondering if my powder coating would be accepted.
Basically what I am trying to do is build a black lightsaber, with red accents. So for example: I have DFS1 in the flat black, and DFS2 in red, on the main body. I have a similar set up on the blade holder.

Is this allowed? Can two powder coating options be placed on one part? Or am I going to be laughed at and told to pick one or the other?

Thank you for any responses in advance

Contact Tim and see what he says. That's the best sure fire way to find out.

The answer in the past has been no, but it's possible Tim has found a way to accomplish it.

If not, you can get a similar effect by having the part powdercoated in one color, then masking and painting the accents on it with enamel spraypaint. It won't be quite as durable, but you'll get the look you're wanting.

I did get a response from Tim and, unfortunately for me, the answer is still "no."

Thank you for the masking and painting comment though, because I was already wondering to myself if that would be a good idea. From the sounds of what you are saying I may have to redo it at some point, but at least I'll get the look I was going for in my head

sort of in relation to this topic, as i'm interested in doing the same color scheme as Jeedai, has anyone ever tried using enamel nail polish and nail polish clear coats for the accent colors? or does anybody know if they would work just as well as taping and spraying?

While nail polish might have the durability, it would be difficult to get the "sprayed smooth"look. I would go with spray paint, unless the part to be accented has only a very small area to be covered.

i was planning to just paint in the grooves of the hilt style 5 (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Hi...ctor-P406.aspx) i was thinking if i used enough of the nail polish that it's a fairly thick coat and let it dry there wouldn't be any texturing to it, it would just be a smooth finish. i just feel like it'd be more time consuming to tape it all off and spray it then it would be to just brush it on.

Give it a try. If it looks bad, you can always strip it and try again.
