Thread: CREE LED Question

  1. #1

    Default CREE LED Question

Just saw the new LEDs and was interested in using them in a future build. I wont be doing sound or in hilt re-charge so I was wondering what would be the best voltage? Like for a 1000mA buck puck since that's what's needed anyway. AA or AAA batteries? Thanks. =]

Buckpucks need at least 5V to run properly, so I would recommend a 7.4 V li-ion pack.

    Could someone enlighten me.
Is there an advantage to the Cree LEDs?
I'm looking at their Lumen values and it looks like they are lower than the Rebel LEDs. I tried to post a little grid for comparison here, but the web sight ignores Tabs so its all messed up. I know the amperages vary and some are listed in 'LM" (lumen?) while others say 'mW' (milliwatt?). So I feel like I'm comparing apples and oranges.

Are rebels being phased out? Did I miss a post ?

Yes, they tend to perform better then the Rebels. Which would be the reason why it was decided to carry them.

    Possibly.

No, you didn't "miss a post".

Seems to me that the Red Cree would be brighter as it runs at 1000mA rather than the 700mA of the Rebel Stars.

We will be posting more info on all of this as well as doing some real world tests as I have a lumen meter now.

Tim, would you be able to post an image of each of the Crees lighting up a blade for colour comparison?

Awww, but the questions that remain: Will there be a RGB Cree? Can the single colors do Flash-On-Clash (dual intensity, like break lights)?
