Thread: EL wire

    Default EL wire

So I'm starting a saber project and I want to put EL wire in the grip. I have seen a few with this feature that look like it is recessed in some kind of black foam padding. Does anyone know what this is? Also How would I wire it to my sound card? Everything says accent led. Would i wire it the same and put it on the same spots?

EL wire runs on AC (the frequency of the alternating current is what illuminates the material in the wire), and you would need additional hardware (an el wire driver) to use (is not plug and play to a DC soundboard).

I've been trying to research this, but I'm not quite as knowledgeable about electronics to know if it would even be possible to drive el wire from a board's accent led points.

There are sabers that incorporated el wire accents, but how that was pulled off is beyond me.

I do have a 3v dc converter. I was looking for advice from people who have worked with it.

I figured out the wiring. Now I just need to know what people are using for the padding

What soundboard are you wiring this to? The accent led pads on a Petit Crouton or Crystal Focus only put out 3.3v and 20ma of current, which may not enough current to run the inverter.

Im gunna run it off the charge port, so once I pull the plug out it will stay on.

Make sure the soundboard and inverter have similar voltage requirements and that will definitely work.
