He said he didn't want to have to screw it apart.
I think a spring mechanism is the best. Have it work like an umbrella. Have opposing springs that push a pin out. This pin lines up with the female pommel and some holes.

ask tim about doing a one off sink tube double hilt connector designed to mimick the bamboo katanas release button...
if the double connector was cored out for a button assembly like this locking pin setup you could put a mhs sink tube adapter into the hilt and have tim machine a pommel that fits inside the 1.5 sinktube. if the pommel was pushed far enough into the hilt for the double adapter to slide in and there was a cutout in the pommel for the lock pin to seat then this would work, would be strong and disconnect quickly... throw that idea around and maybe we can come up with a working option

Here's what I was thinking:
Should be simple enough. It seems you already want to get the whole thing custom machined so it should be easy to implement. If Tim did do a better system this would be nice.

only problem there is he would have a larger section on one of his pommels, imo a symetrical hilt would look and function better

something like this should work quite well, be easy to do, give you a better ressonance chamber, and you could use convertec knobs for the release buttons...
xwing does it again! you gave me a very good idea, one that i think i can have done and have it work too!
aren't they called neodym-magnets or something?
The point of this is actually out to lunch.
