Thread: EL Saber to Luxeon

    Default EL Saber to Luxeon

I am new to this, though I have spent many hours perusing the forum, and I am not sure where this question would go. It combines a couple of different topics.

I have a lightech Industries Viper Defender El saber. Is it possible to convert it to a luxeon? I have taking it apart, and it seems like it will work, but the first thing it needs (other then the electronics) is a blade holder. Just one that would fit inside the hilt. Does TCSS offering anything like that? Other then the screw on kind for the MHS?

On another note entirely, while I have been looking through the forum, it really seems like yall really enjoy making lightsabers, and talking about them. I look forward to learning from yall.

You will have to use the existing blade holder. Since it was EL it had one. The biggest issue with any EL to Luxeon switch is the heatsink. It's always a custom solution.

Depending on how much you want to do to it is really the question.

Email Tim for a price on a custom sized LED holder and post some pics, we can give plenty of suggestions if we see how much room you have in there.

Here are some pictures (not great, I am by no means a photographer) I have some more or can take more if that would help.

it is about 4 1/2 inches on the outside circumference.

Oh man... that's just choice for a conversion.

I'd do this: figure out the diameter of the blade holder insert. Then get Tim to grind down a heatsink. Now cut the holder in half. Sandwich the heatsink in between your new halfs and you are set.

If you want to get the 1" blade socket then just sending the whole blade holder to Tim would work. He can measure it and set you up with a new holder and work the same thing out.

Now that is what I would do. Just get a blade/led holder setup that will go in place of that and bling up the insides with a puck or a driver, maybe some sound. Heck yes! That is a dream to work with bud.

For James3 idea, All I would need to get is a blade/led holder and screw those in and set up the electronics? Can I get just the blade and heatsink from Tim? Not the kind that screws in to the mhs?

That is correct. Before Tim came up with the MHS stuff it was custom blade/led holders to fit in pipes and such. Just give him a quick email and you will be on your way to Luxeon goodness.

Thanks much, I can already feel that sweet sweet luxeon power.

I had a Larbel ObiWan TPM EL done by Sithplanet and a Larbel Obi-Wan TPM Luxeon done by JSS. I think Yoda over at FX redid his EL Obi-Wan into a luxeon. There was really no room for a sound board in the Larbel, and I'm thinking the same for the Parks and Lightechs. Didn't Lightech have a sound module that you could attach?
