Thread: Lexeon Rebel compared to Luxeon III

I personally have adopted CREE exclusively for my builds with the exception of the handful of Luxeon III Red's that I saved from years ago. But I just read the specs on the newly released CREE X-PE2 Red LED's and they can be driven at a maximum of 1000 mA. I may just make the switch. CREE seems to have much tighter control over it's Color Binning than Luxeon. That's just my preference though.

Yes, the XPE2s are what I was referring to. Super bright and power efficient.

I'm generally pretty happy with the light output from the Rebels but the reds always seem noticeably dimmer than the other colors even in photos. Are the XPE2 LEDs from Cree really brighter? Does anyone have a comparison video or pics for that?

Well according to the data sheets the CREE Reds have a different nanometer for their particular color bin as compared to a Luxeon Rebel Red. So their Red is a brighter shade than the Rebel, which would in turn appear brighter to the eye. Just like the Deep Red is a different shade from the standard Red.
