Default Lexeon Rebel compared to Luxeon III

So I've been out of the saber building scene for around 8 years and I'm trying to get back up to speed on todays tech. My last build was a MR conversion that, I believe, used a Luxeon III. How, in terms of brightness, do the Rebel and Tri Rebels compare?

Welcome back to the community. The old Lux III's have been obsolete for years. The Rebels are bright, and the Tri-Rebels are made using the same LEDs ais currently used in the single die Rebels. We wouldn't keep dim light around here.

Yeah, being 8+ years old, I figured they would be! I'm planning on replacing the III's I have on my already converted MR sabers. Speaking of, would there be any compatibility issues with the Rebels and the old heatsinks? I'd like to not to have to buy a new conversion kit if I don't need to.

    Welcome back.

If your Lux 3 was on a star backing - the new LED's will work fine with your old conversion kit.

Just one thing to note, if any of them are red, the lux III red is a better option than the red Rebel.

Good to know. I have a MR Vader that has a Lux III red. Is it that the III's have a better color red than the Rebels or are the Rebels not brighter than the III's when it comes to red?

You're better off with a Luxeon III Red because you can run it at a maximum of 1400 mA vs. the Luxeon Rebel Red which you can run at a maximum voltage of 700 mA. Even under driving a Lux III red will give you plenty of brightness and an LED you'll likely never have to replace. Ever.

LuxIII red-orange was extremely bright as well.

Cree reds are better than the Rebels and the LUXIIIs.
