Thread: LED Question for first custom saber

Seriously. Thanks for the replies guys. It's cool to have veteran saber builders like you want to help out the new guys.

So if you were going to wire an RGB on a stunt saber to have a yellow blade (R and G dice), how would you do it? Is there no other option besides splitting the current from a single driver, thereby limiting the current to the green die to the lower max current of the red die? I realize the situation I'm asking about is not ideal, but this line of questions is helping me understand more about how LEDs work together in a circuit.

If you want Red and Green mixed for Yellow on a stunt saber, I'd honestly ditch the BuckPuck and use resistors. Wire the two dice in parallel and put the appropriate resistor on each die. There is a resistor calculator in my signature, if you don't already know Ohm's Law.

Since you're planning on upgrading to the Petit Crouton at some point, the BuckPuck would be unnecessary after the upgrade. It would just be useless to you until you decided to build another stunt saber.

And honestly, once you have built a saber with sound...you never want to go back to a stunt.

Sounds like a plan worth going with. Thanks for the advice.

The Tri-Rebels in the store mix well in my experience, here's an ever popular purple mix on a RG(royal)B.
Although the blade looks whitish check out the glow, it's really quite purple in person.

That looks sweet. I don't see any RGB with royal blue in the store though

They're just out of stock. Tim carries the Red/Green/Blue and the Red/Green/RoyalBlue Tri-Rebels. They shouldn't be out of stock too long, they're a rather popular choice for color mixing.

You aren't going to be able to give the Red 1000 mA, plus if you wire them in parallel, you will have a very dull blade. Stick to blue or green for now if thats all you are going to put into the saber. Also where did you get that LED from? Those dice do not look like they are individually addressable.
That looks like a deal extreme 3watt RGB. They share a common positive pad and are all individually addressable, I have a few of them still, but haven't used one in a long time.
