I finished my 2-year-old's first saber. He loves John Deere tractors, so I figured I'd give him a saber with a JD theme to it.
This is my first PVC saber, and I'm rather pleased with how it turned out. My son was absolutely thrilled with it.
Specs:
PVC construction
Rebel Amber LED
Hasbro Econo Board, with default speaker
Upgraded swing and clash sensors
3xAAA alkaline battery pack
Custom paint job, with pinstriping
I went with the econo board due to the fact that it has an auto shutoff feature, and I'd rather not be replacing or recharging the saber every other day.
Behold! The pics!
For the pinstriping, I painted the entire hilt yellow, then applied some 3m multi-stripe pinstriping tape. Repainted it with the green, and removed the pinstriping tape. (Don't forget to allow drying time between those steps!) Added some clearcoat for protection, and it should be durable enough for my son.
For ease of switch installation, I built an activation box out of electrical conduit. Black spraypaint for contrast, and clearcoat for protection.
For added safety of my eyes, I used a setscrew to install the blade. I don't need my son removing the blade and shining the saber in anyone's face.
