Thread: Using EL (Electro Luminescent) Tape in the hilt (not the blade) to spice it up

Default Using EL (Electro Luminescent) Tape in the hilt (not the blade) to spice it up

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever managed to incorporate EL Tape into their hilt innards of a sabre to get a glowing effect. I know EL blades are covered in the forum, but I'm curious to try adding EL tape, or sheets, to add a glow affect in the hilts insides - perhaps wrap my battery with it to make it look all radioactive, or something. But, as i understand it they require AC which requires incorporating a DC -> AC circuit which is pushing it when you have only 3.7v (if you go with 1 x 18650) and not a lot of space to work with.

So, just looking for feedback or examples of anyone crazy enough to make that work.

    Thanks,
    Al

It's been done, but it's fairly uncommon now. You'll need an inverter to convert to AC. Check this section of the forums for more info on working with EL: http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com...nescent-Sabers
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.
