    Default First Saber Build Help Needed

    Hi,

    This is my first saber build and it should be looking like this in the end: P1100948.jpgP1100936.jpg

    I was wondering if I got all the parts I will need except for the battery and the "sink tube section" and if it would be possible to fit a 1,25" sink tube inside the adapter or even make the mid part out of wood (or would this be too fragile?).

    I am also not sure which battery to take (probably 7,4v, but which one?) and if the Rebel Star LED is the right choice.

    If you really want to use the buckpuck, you will want any one of the 7.4v li-ion packs. With the Rebel Green and Blue LEDs, you can actually use a single 3.7v li-ion and skip using the buckpuck altogether.

    I don't think the 1.25" sinktube will fit inside the 1.5" adapter. You'll probably have to get the 1.5" sinktube instead.

    One bit of information for you: If you're not in the U.S., then TCSS will not be able to ship li-ion battery packs to you. You'll need to find a local provider for your batteries.

    Thank you very much! I already know where to buy the battery, but do I have all the other parts I will need in my list? And isnt the Seoul P4 the better choice for green?

    I've used both, and they're similar in brightness. I'm more fond of the Rebels since they'll run off a single li-ion without any extra work.

    There's some differences in the particular shade of green, but they're both really nice greens.

    ok thanks again but i have got 3 more questions:

    If I want do use a single li-ion cell do i have to use a resistor?

    And if I have 2 cells why dont I need a balancer for the battery?

    And at the store it says that the seoul p4 max. voltage is 4,1v will this be managed by the buck puck?

    And I am a little confused because of the wiring of the pre-wired elecronics because to me it seems like the normal wiring looks like this: diagram1.jpg and the pre wirded one like this: diagram2.jpg is that right? and if yes do i have all the parts I need for the saber (except for the battery and sink tube)?

    You don't need a resistor with a single cell and the Rebel Green. If you choose to use one, the 1 ohm 2 watt is appropriate.
    If you get a premade 2 cell pack, the PCB is already present in the pack. If you make your own pack, you will need a PCB to help balance the cells.
    If you use the buckpuck, it will manage the voltage appropriately. You just need to be sure you have over 5v going in to the buckpuck.

    The difference in the wiring diagrams is due to the fact that the prewired buckpuck is the 6-wire version. Be advised that the buckpuck can start acting odd when the battery voltage drops below 5v, and you may have issues turning the saber on and off.

    Does that mean that I can just drive the rebel directly from the battery?

    That's correct. The Rebel Blues and Greens can be direct driven from a single li-ion battery. Other LEDs, different colors, different battery solutions, and you will likely need a resistor. But the Rebel Blues and Greens are safe for direct drive on 3.7v.
