I've been eyeing the Lowes $99 Delta model for a while. Anyone has any experience with it? Is it a decent tool, or am I throwing money away if I get it?

For making sabers it should be great. I use a set up that utilizes an air drill and a vise made by snap on. Just make sure the chuck is at least half inch. 3/8 does not provide large enough drill bits for over 3/8 holes.

I wouldn't worry so much about the chuck being 3/8 versus 1/2. I use a step bit for all of my saber construction, and it works great. I can drill 9/16" holes on a 3/8 chuck.

The step bit seems to do a nice job of drilling the hle cleanly and getting rid of the ridge from drilling too. Lots of oil used during drilling helps too.[]

If you get that $99 drill press, I would recommend buying a good quality step bit and then see about someone making you a v-block out of wood or have one made out of aluminum. A v-block is a life-saver when it comes to drilling round stock.

I got mine at sears, its a craftsman. It was on sale for $99 and I had a couplon at the time I think it ended up being $85 or something. It has a lazer sight and everything. Actually I think the lazer sight is kinda pointless...but it's cool to tell people. It works great so far.
