Thread: Anti Vandal Switches, Momentary vs. Latching

Default Anti Vandal Switches, Momentary vs. Latching

Don't worry, not a thread about which is which...

So I picked up one of each for my saber with no sound board. I used the latching switch for the power and the other just for accent LED. Now I have my PC2.0 on the way and I'm trying to figure out my wiring. I know that the ignition switch can use either, just set in the config and all, but I really don't like the latching on the AV switches; it takes too much to press it in. (So much in fact that with the "stunt" setup I have now, I wired it opposite of normal so pressing the latch all the way down actually turns the saber off. Makes it easier to power on when I want to.)

Question: can the latching switch be used just like a momentary so long as you don't press it all the way to latch? I've heard people say that a non-latched latching switch would just act like a momentary, but can you actually use it that way with a PC? Would latching it hurt my PC? I don't want to risk frying anything and can always order a new mom switch, but this would be cheaper and more convenient. Maybe even swap the switches so the latching is used for the aux? (Yes, I realize latching switches aren't supported for aux, but I mean as above by not pressing all the way.)

    Thanks all!

I have one of the av latching switches, and it works like a momentary, but i do not know if all av switches are like this. the one i have is like http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/16...itch-P429.aspx
but it has a red ring, that glows with power, but it is obviously red.

    sorry i'm not much help.

It won't fry your board to use it. When it's not latched it'll just be like a normal momentary, and when its latched it's like you're holding down the momentary.

okay guys... I'm still new but i got two hilts (Mine and Sons). I have one, mine, with the Trans White Battle blade. The other is the TCSS style Battle blade. So what is the deal with the film and "Wrapping" and how big a difference does it actually make? If it makes that big a difference, how do you do it?

    Thanks,

Jordan is correct, you can just "tap" a latching switch and it'll act as a momentary just fine.

For Archangel Gregory, http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com...t-how-I-do-it) will show you how to add film to a blade. Some people like it, some people don't. My recommendation is to give it a try and decide for yourself.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.

Perfect, exactly as I was hoping. Thanks guys!

Yep, as long as you have the config set to momentary it will act like a momentary. I'm wondering if your switch is defective though, because mine is very easy to latch.
